Our newest fintech client, a hyper growth digital banking brand are seeking a Head of Legal / Legal Council This role will see you working alongside the entire leadership team with a great opportunity to join one of the fastest growing fintech’s in Europe.

This really is a blank canvas opportunity. This fintech are looking for someone able to take overall responsibility for all company legal matters, and who is comfortable working closely with the board and senior management team, as well as with people at all levels across the business.

They have a highly defined culture and it means you’ll be working in a company with a clear mission and an expectation to quickly deliver and iterate your approach to ensure that legal matters never become a bottleneck, while also identifying ways to support the commercial aims of the company.

This will be a stand-alone role at first so you’ll need to be able to balance the strategy with the hands-on activity. They have some external support for you to lean on so you will have some resources even as you build out your team. Your role will be very broad and cover a wide range of areas (although you don’t have to be a specialist in all of them).

You’ll lead on key projects and initiatives covering things like IP, providing hands on legal advice to senior leadership, managing relationships with external law firms, data privacy and security, working with regulatory bodies.

About the role:

We are looking for a lawyer with post admission experience and recent in house experience. Familiarity with FCA regulations and an interest in finance and banking would be a huge advantage!

As our Head of Legal, you will work to support our global expansion, strategic business objectives and core business operations. Of utmost importance for success in this role will be the ability to operate with agility and accuracy within a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment, and strong working knowledge of FCA regulations, particularly surrounding financial promotions.

Responsibilities:

  • Early identification, advice, and suggested resolution of legal and compliance risk.
  • Reviewing marketing, advertising and published content for compliance with relevant financial regulations, advertising, privacy and consumer laws.
  • Reviewing and drafting agreements.
  • Managing IP matters.
  • Assisting with compliance issues, including drafting policies.
  • Advising on UK and EU financial product promotion laws, and GDPR.

 Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working within an FCA regulated business in a mid - senior level legal capacity
  • Qualified LPC / LLB / LLM
  • Working knowledge of UK financial services laws.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR law.
  • Aptitude to navigate through complex and ambiguous environments.
  • Experience with financial services, credit product advertising and marketing laws.
  • Understanding of Shariah / Islamic Finance products and legal terms would be an advantage.
