The role of Guarantees Officer is to ensure that all guarantee processing and administration is actioned efficiently to ensure that customer services standards are met as directed by senior team members.

Principle Accountabilities and Duties:

  • Ensures that all incoming instructions from customers/branches and other banks are handled within agreed turnaround times and without errors as directed by senior team members
  • Deals with all administration under Guarantees including the daily list of periodic commissions to be debited or claimed from customers/banks.
  • Ensures that all the necessary correspondence in respect of guarantee issuance is despatched promptly to the required parties.
  • Shares advising movement of funds to Settlement Dept. before the stipulated cut off times.
  • Shares archiving of dead files on a regular basis and retrieves files from archive when required.
  • Assist in resolving queries relating to work processed on the section
  • Other duties relating to Trade Services processing as required by the Manager, Trade Services or Head of Trade Services.
  • Share responsibility for clearing outstanding Nostro items relating to guarantees
  • 1st Review of guarantee texts where required and advise findings to senior staff for further action.


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with processing Trade Finance Guarantees
  • Ideally hold a Certificate for Specialists in Demand Guarantees (CSDG)
  • Knowledge of URDG 758, UCP 600, ISP98, ISBP 745, Incoterms 2010, ICC 715, URR 725 and URC 522 and extensive experience working with swift MT700, 707, 760, 767 and 799.
  • In depth knowledge of Guarantees and Standby Letters of Credit and their work cycle. Issuance, amendments and cancellations and wording reviews.
